Humus, Carbonico Tinto, 2018
The Wine: Tongue-bursting fizz, with juicy beautiful plums and wet moss. Complex, tart, and a bit on the barnyard funky side. Let this beauty open up for about 15 minutes, and start to smell savory mushrooms and damp blueberries. Made among the rolling hills north of Lisbon, with the meandering Duoro River running through ancient wine country, and the sea only 12 miles away.
The Winemaker: It is a strong commitment to soil strength that drives winemaker Rodrigo Filipe of Humus Wines and Quinta do Paço Farm. Self-taught, he grows only local varieties in his lime-claystone soil farm where his father originally planted vines in the 90s.
The Place: Óbidos, PortugalThe Grape: Toruiga Nacional / Syrah
Organic / Carbonic Maceration / Zero-Zero / ABV 12.5%
