THE WINEMAKER: Andrea Scovero is a third generation winemaker in the world famous Asti region of Piedmont. A more traditional locale, Scovero was described to us as eccentric, doing things in his own way in his small village. For example, he ages his Sauvignon Blanc in three different containers; steel, acacia barrel, and amphora. This is unheard of in the region and lends an incredible complexity to his wine. His vines, some as old as 50 years, grow in a natural amphitheater, known as a ciapin, in the hills of Bionzo.
